Well I am 100% in the Christmas Spirit. At least for me the Christmas spirit means spending time with loved ones, giving back to those less fortunate and enjoying copious amounts of food and maybe imbibing in a little wine or eggnog. I am trying to cram as much of all these things into every single day right now, some I’m more successful at than others. And I must admit, I think work productivity level goes downhill a little bit this week, both for Justin and myself. And we some how think sleeping in is a necessity.
Last night, we had some good friends over for a fondue night that went late and was a lot of fun. I think I’ve now eaten enough cheese for the rest of 2010. Yesterday, I met one of my very good friends and her daughter for lunch. It was great getting to catch in the middle of the day with them. Tonight I am going to the movies with some of my girlfriends, for a nice little girls night out. Everyone just seems so happy and excited, especially with all the snow and the impending visit from Santa.
While I was walking around the grocery store picking up fondue accoutrements, my phone rang from an unknown number. As I have written about earlier, I am not a big phone person, so answering unknown numbers is a bit tough for me. I have gotten much better though and answered it. It was INOVA Blood Donor services asking if I would be willing to come donate platelets because I am the correct blood type, I donate blood so often and they are in desperate need. Platelets are different from donating whole blood because they insert 2 needles, one into each arm. They take out the blood, extract the platelets, and put what’s left back in. It doesn’t take too much longer than donating whole blood, about an hour. And the best part of platelets is that you can do it every 2 weeks instead of the obligatory 56 days with whole blood. So I agreed to go donate platelets tomorrow around lunch time. I figured if I have something that people need, especially during the holidays when the demand increases, then I should be more than willing to help with those less fortunate.
You cannot buy that feeling of helping others out and it is one of the most rewarding things that you can do with life. Truly feels like the Christmas spirit.
To Smile.
