It is almost like it is a trial run. Today is one of the days I have taken off to get my vacation hours down to 40 which is what my company will pay me out. It is a little bit weird to get up and not have to jump in the shower immediately. I think this transition is definitely going to be difficult for Justin. He is not a morning person, but I am. I woke up basically about the same time and have already put in a load of laundry. I am trying to keep some sort of structure to what I do with my day. I am trying to figure this whole work from home and job searching thing before it actually happens. This will hopefully ease some of the anxiety and stress of the situation.
My plan for today:
8-12: Work on finding freelance writing jobs online. Write on my blog and also catch up on my blog reading.
During this time I am sure that I will do about 4 loads of laundry. Justin has been on travel for about 10 days so he had multiple suitcases worth of clothing that I need to try and work through. I figure if I am at home, I should at least be a good housewife.
Then this afternoon is when things get a little more interesting, a little more intimidating. I plan to drive around, probably out to some of the vineyards in Loudoun and try to find a job. I also would like to stop by some of the assisted living places around here and drop off a resume, but those may need to wait for my next day off.
Then I want to head to the gym and back home to have dinner going when Justin gets home. It will be very nice if we no longer have to eat at 8:30PM!
I am not a fan of cold calling. I definitely do not like stopping by some where, unexpected and trying to sell myself. I have had to do this one other time. Shortly after my father died, all my student loans got moved over to me. Sallie Mae literally gave me 3 weeks notice that I would owe this money. I had no idea how much this would be and where I would get the money. I was already a poor recent graduate living in a very expensive city. Where was I going to find hundreds more a month when I already ended the month with my budget in the red?
I walked into Washington Sports Club in DuPont and told them I would be an amazing personal trainer. I had never been a personal trainer before but I definitely knew I would be good at it (and I was desperate). Surprisingly, astonishing to me, they hired me. I have always believed that I was hired for this job because I had such confidence and drive that I oozed these characteristics. I need to just embody that previous mentality and do it again. I need to realize that it can’t hurt walking into some where and asking if they are hiring and give them a resume. If they don’t hire me or don’t need anyone, then fine, time to move on to the next place. Hopefully I can maintain that mentality and not get discouraged or take rejection personally.
To Smile.

I think that structure is really important. When I was laid off last December, I remember wanting to stay up late and sleep in, but that is totally unsatisfying.
How far are you from the vineyards? That would be so cool to work at a winery… hard work (I really admire people who own/run vineyards!), but rewarding!
Good luck today. I have my fingers crossed for you.
I am lucky in the fact that I am a morning person. And an overplanner. I did really want to lay on my couch yesterday afternoon and watch Love Actually, but it simply never happened because I ran out of ti,e
The vineyards are any where from 10 minutes to 30 minutes away. I definitely live in the heart of Virginia wine country. I am very lucky and it is a common Saturday or Sunday event to go wine tasting around here. So much fun!
Thank you so much!
