I am definitely enjoying these 1.5 days off right now, taking my own recommendations and trying to enjoy everything.
Yesterday was hectic and it felt like we couldn’t catch a break. I kept trying to take a step back and remind myself that despite the fact things kept going wrong, it really didn’t matter. It wasn’t negatively affecting anything other than the amount of time we got to spend at the tailgate with our friends and family.
I had an interesting conversation with one of my girlfriends before the game. She is going through a lot in life right now and she was saying that she is learning that no matter how much she plans and tries to control things, stuff will still go wrong. That it is almost amazing—things you didn’t even realize could go wrong, may go wrong. She was stating it was humbling but also she is feeling like she shouldn’t spend her life controlling things and trying to ensure she achieves particular results. Life will happen how it is going to happen, we are basically just along for the ride along the path that our life takes.
I definitely agreed with all this and need to continuing realizing this.
This morning I had to take Justin to the airport quite early (I think I am already ready for a nap.) and I figured I may as well go workout instead of going back home. If I went back home, the day may pass me by and never get a workout in. One big problem—I was exhausted and really wanted to just go back to my mother’s house. I was thinking of a way to enjoy the run, to live in the run and not just think “I want this done, this is awful, etc”.
So I took my camera with me and took pictures along the entire route. Time flew by!
The Huckleberry trail runs outside of Blacksburg and to Christiansburg. I ran about 1.5 miles on the trail and then dropped down on to the Virginia Tech campus.
Start of the trail
A sign in a yard showing their support
The leaves are basically nearing their end. Colors are stunning but many trees have already dropped most of their leaves.
A memorial to Eric Sutphin who was a police officer who was shot on the trail. A very sad and tragic story and I always try to take a moment to think.
Mile 1.0
Past the stadium and on to campus
Virginia Tech has a stunning field through the middle of campus (the Drill Field)
The April 16th Memorial
The colors on this tree was amazing, greens and reds and oranges.
This stunning little guy isn’t going to make it much longer once it starts frosting
Gorgeous Hokie Stone buildings
Running along
And back to the beginning.
It was about a 3.5 mile run and I had a lot of fun taking pictures. Made me think about what I was doing and really taking in all the beauty around me. Off to help Mom clean the attic, I’m hoping to find all my picture albums growing up. That would be a wonderful walk down memory lane!
To Smile.

Wow! What a great idea! I’m totally going to borrow that idea!!!
I loved running in Blacksburg when I went there. The campus is so pretty!
Looks like a great run!!! Have a fabulous weekend.
Definitely steal this one! And it means I’ll get see pics of where you run! I’ll be jealous of all that California sunshine!
Wow – that is absolutely beautiful! It looks like an amazing campus. I love this time of year…and that flower is just hanging on!
When I took my camera on my walk, it was interesting – I loved how much more attention I paid to everything, rather than passing it by. Maybe I’ll take a camera with me…everywhere?
It really is an amazing campus. Gorgeous and set in stone.
I always have my camera with me but I so rarely use it. I do want to take more walks with it, I love how it really changes how you see things! The most mundane thing can become stunning.
