About Me

While we are in one of the worst U.S. recessions ever and people are doing nearly anything to keep employment.

I elected to quit my job, without a new one to go to. I am figuring it out on my own, as my own employer. I have always loved to write, so I decided it was time to become a writer.

Because life is about more than just money?

It is time for me to do what it is I truly love to do.

Happiness Awaits

Prepared and Ready To Go

Morning. bag I got delayed until 10 for work today.  The daughter had started to cough yesterday afternoon and took a very long nap while I was there.  I told her mother this and this morning she called and said she was taking her to the doctor at 9.  (Oh–and the daughter speaks English.  The whole family speaks fluent English.  But they do speak to each other in another language (an Indian language I believe.)  I’m always impressed when children are already fluent in multiple languages.  jealousy!)  I guess there is a chance the mother will call and cancel for the day, but such is the risk I run in my new job line.

Like I have said so many times, I am an extremely Type A personality.   I like (okay, need) to control any and all aspects of life that I think I can exert control over.  It isn’t always a good trait and one I’ve been working on for quite a while.  I think this new schedule and situation I have put myself in will help ease this nuance.  Things could change at any moment and I need to be willing to ebb and flow with these changes.  I need to have other activities that I can use to fill in time if things change.  I also need to not feel pressure and stress if I don’t get everything done.  I will need to learn to be more flexible with my schedule and my to-do list.

Seeing I have spent much of this week hanging out with children under the age of 6, I wanted to invest ($10) into a little go-to “fun” kit.  At least for the time being, doing this on-call nannying, I will be going into different homes with different children potentially multiple times a week. And what do kids love more than anything?  Okay, probably not more than cake and ice cream, but a close second?  New toys.  So I went to Target and hit up the $1 section and got what I consider some great finds!

finds

A few coloring books, a few reading books, a sticker book, some crayons, 2 packs of kids card games and a puzzle.  I should admit that I still enjoy to color.  So far–coloring and reading have been my favorite activities with my little one’s.

There are a few other things I’m trying to get done around the house with this unexpected hour.  I packed my gym bag and I’m hoping to hit the gym some time today.  I really have no idea when, but hopefully this will play out!  I also still think there is a chance the mother calls and cancels and I will be around the house today working on my writing, which would also be nice.  One way or another, I’m focusing on enjoying my day!

To Smile.

  • This might sound strange, but my friends and I during finals in college would hit up Walmart and buy crayons and coloring books. It was a therapeutic release from the stressors of studying, writing papers, etc. A mindless and enjoyable activity!

  • What a great idea! Kids LOVE new toys – and who doesn’t like coloring? (Plus, I like to color, too. Like Quinn said, it IS therapeutic!)

  • I totally hear you on relinquishing a bit of control! I love managing everything, but it makes it so hard to adapt to little changes or unexpected situations that come up. I never know how to stop “caring” so much… I always worry that if I don’t plan everything out, then I’m being complacent. Do you feel the same way?
