If I could choose or not choose to call myself - I wouldn't want to talk to me, either! Unless I have something specific to complain...er, talk about, I just do better with e-mail/texting or in person. I feel guilty about it, but I guess it's just me. I always remind myself that shorter/more frequent calls are much more enjoyable than waiting too long to call someone and having a mildly awkward, REALLY long conversation to catch up on everything!
