About Me

While we are in one of the worst U.S. recessions ever and people are doing nearly anything to keep employment.

I elected to quit my job, without a new one to go to. I am figuring it out on my own, as my own employer. I have always loved to write, so I decided it was time to become a writer.

Because life is about more than just money?

It is time for me to do what it is I truly love to do.

Thanksgiving Week-Day 1

Well, actually today would be considered day 2.  Yesterday was the first day of implementing my plan of enjoying the holidays.  And how did I do you ask?  Well I think I succeeded with flying colors!  Justin and I drove home from Blacksburg fairly early yesterday morning and when we arrived back in Loudoun County, I hit the ground running.  Actually, it felt more like hitting the ground sprinting.  But I stayed sane and kept a smile on my face the entire time.  My crazy to-do list included grocery shopping for Thanksgiving, cleaning the house for our guest, steam vacuuming the carpet, hang pictures on the wall, starting to prep food for Thanksgiving, neighborhood book club and doing laundry.  Did I get it all done?

The grocery store–yes.  It took over 2 hours!  And definitely made a dent in the wallet.  But I stayed calm the entire, crowded time.  I didn’t let the line or the people annoy me at all.  Or the fact that it was taking FOREVER.  So I would say this was a success!

Cleaning the House–For the most part.  The bathrooms got a scrub, isn’t that the most important?

Steam clean the carpets–This was mandatory.  I unfortunately let a few drops (okay, like half a cup) of tea spill on our carpet and I am MORTIFIED when anyone sees it, so I had to get this taken care of ASAP.  The carpets look brand new now!

Hang pictures on the wall–With Justin’s help and manly expertise, this was completed.

Prep Foods–Cranberry relish-check.  Crust for pumpkin pie is in the freezer.  Roasted garlic for the stuff.  Done, done and done.

Book Club–Nope.  Something had to give and this was it.  Which made me sad because I was looking forward to the social outlet, and I adore my neighbors.  And I wanted to hear what they thought of History of Love.  It was…interesting and kind of difficult to read.  But I finished it.

Laundry-Luckily this got done at the last minute.

Sigh-it was a busy busy busy day.  But I feel accomplished and I never got upset or overwhelmed.  I enjoyed prepping food and grocery shopping.  Now I just need to keep this smile on my face and enjoy the week.  I am about to head out the door to pick my brother, Douglas, up at Dulles airport.  Then we are heading into the District for the day to do the museum thing–can’t wait!

To Smile.

  • What recipe are you using for the pumpkin pie? I’ve never made one before, but I want to this year!

Sounds like you have everything all organized… two hours in the grocery store would have been difficult for me!

I’m emailing you the pumpkin pie recipe–yes, I know a little late. But it turned out fabulously. I am considering eating it for breakfast!

  • yayyyy museums!! :-D

    Always so much fun!
