About Me

While we are in one of the worst U.S. recessions ever and people are doing nearly anything to keep employment.

I elected to quit my job, without a new one to go to. I am figuring it out on my own, as my own employer. I have always loved to write, so I decided it was time to become a writer.

Because life is about more than just money?

It is time for me to do what it is I truly love to do.

Happiness Awaits

This is what life's all about

I am exhausted.  Like, I couldn’t cook dinner and I wish I was in bed and it is 8:15PM type of exhausted.  This is because I eeked every bit of goodness out of this weekend.  This was one of those weekends that make all the hard work worth it.  As all of you know, the East Coast was pummeled by an incredible blizzard this weekend.  We were located right in the heart of it and took completely and full advantage of it.

Friday night we were supposed to go to a Date Night at the National Zoo.  Due to the impending snow, I decided to cancel those plans and we went out to eat and rented two movies and just enjoyed a quiet evening at home.  The snow started around 9:45 Friday night.  We were up and out shoveling snow on Saturday morning around 8:30AM.  There were already 10 inches.  It was kind of amusing, we headed out to start shoveling and half the other neighbors were walking out of their houses at the same time.  So there was some running around with dogs (okay, I chased the German Shepherd around and everyone else just stared at me like I was crazy) and then we started the shoveling.  It was already really heavy!

We had already planned to go to my in-laws for Christmas with them. We are spending Christmas Day this year with my family. Dinner was planned and Justin’s brother and sister in law had headed down from New York.  We knew (and didn’t want to) that there was no missing Christmas dinner!  So we packed everything up and headed out in the middle of the storm in Justin’s truck.  It was about a 15-20 mile drive, which took almost an hour.  In all honesty, not too bad.  We just went very slowly and things were fairly safe.

Around 1:30, we knew wanted to start sledding.  They have a fairly long and steep hill on their property and with quite a few sleds and people, we turned this thing into a full on luge.

There were 18 inches of snow at this point.

After about an hour and a half of sledding, we went in and had a wonderful dinner.  There was quite a bit of eating and drinking over the course of the blizzard, so all this playing outside was kind of a nice way to offset the caloric intake.

That night, around 9PM, we headed back out to the track.  It was fast and we had a blast.  We probably were outside for at least 2 hour sledding down and hiking up the hill.

We were all done after this session. I was in bed early and wanted to sleep late!  The snow ended around 11PM.  We got 22 inches of snow!

We ended up going out again this afternoon and playing for a few more hours and then headed back to our house.  The roads were still pretty slick.  We got home to have to shovel again the other 12 inches that had fallen since our last shoveling session.  Luckily we have the best neighbors in the world and one of them came out and helped us.  Today, I sledded for about 1.5 hours and shoveled for another near hour.  Yesterday, I shoveled and sledded for 4.5 hours.  I am going to be sore tomorrow.  And probably pretty exhausted.  Schools are closed until January now in Loudoun County.  I doubt the roads will be clear for a few more days and it will definitely be a white Christmas!

It was a very fun weekend, definitely memorable!

To Smile.

  • Oh my gosh!!! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that much snow at once!!

Gosh, I haven’t been sledding in YEARS. This really makes me want to go. I love the sledding scene in “Christmas Vacation” – now all I need are hills! (SO flat here).

Shoveling is an INTENSE workout. I only had to twice last year, but wow – I was incredibly sore days after!!
